Julia Falvey

Ph.D. Student

Julia Falvey graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Information Technology Management in 2016 and her Master of Science in Analytics in 2017. After finishing her master's degree, Julia spent a year working as an Operations Research Analyst at the MITRE Corporation, where she had the opportunity to work on simulation and optimization projects supporting various executive departments within the Federal government. Julia became eager to utilize her technical skills in healthcare and public health pursuits, which led her to working as a data scientist for a small healthcare fintech startup and, finally, joining Leidos Health as a data scientist.

Julia began her time at Leidos as supporting the CDC National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) in March, 2020. Her first day of work coincided with the WHO declaring COVID-19 a global pandemic, and she began her public health career deployed on the COVID-19 pandemic task force. Through this work, Julia saw real-time how public health efforts can save lives in emergency scenarios, and this inspired her to pursue formal education in epidemiology.

Julia began a new role within Leidos in October 2022, supporting the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Readiness (ASPR) as a Senior Quantitive Analyst and Modeler. This role requires providing statistical, analytical, and epidemiological support to a variety of preparedness efforts. She has an interest in infectious disease modeling, clinical trials, and vaccine efficacy research. Julia continues to work full-time while pursuing her Ph.D. in Public Health at Georgia State University under the guidance of Dr. Alexander Kirpich, integrating her real-world experience with her academic progress.
